Pioneering a small family-owned business to transform into an international business would require tremendous effort. However, the world's most famous seamstress, Roshan Melwani claims to have only one trick that makes his small business become very successful.

"Give what consumers want," he said as quoted from Business Insider, Monday (30/4/2018).

Melwani and his father, Manu, are the second and third generation of Sam's Tailor, a supplier of sewing and formal sewing orders in Hong Kong. Sam's Tailor has built a reputation for more than 60 years and became the most renowned tailor in the world.

They are able to receive clothing orders from renowned celebrities and world leaders. Customers ranging from George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. Not to forget, David Bowie Russell Crowe and Bruno Mars.

Even the trip to Hong Kong is incomplete without stopping at Melwani's outlet.

Success stories

He first worked at his father's booth at the age of 23 years after studying business at New York University and working a year in London. A proactive approach including suggesting his clients about the proper outfit made him achieve a great deal of success.

He earned a reputation for being able to produce stylish and fashionable clothing.

"The more I give feedback, the better the clothes I make and the more people come here," he said.

But as time goes by, she begins to realize that giving what the consumer wants is more important than what she wants to give to the consumer. He also dreamed of making comfortable clothes consumers wear once a week compared once or twice a year.

When clients do not know what they want, the task is to find out what they really want and give it away. Of course it is important to direct clients to get comfortable and more stylish outfits.

"If someone flies 8 thousand miles just to get a plain shirt of ash, then I'll talk to give advice," he said.
