Clinton Friend’s Libya Role Blurs Lines of Politics and Business
NICHOLAS CONFESSORE and MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT - When the Clintons last occupied the White House, Sidney Blumenthal cast himself in varied roles: speechwriter, in-house intellectual and press corps whisperer. Republicans added another, accusing Mr. Blumenthal of spreading gossip to discredit Republican investigators, and forced him to testify during President Bill Clinton’s impeachment trial.
Now, as Hillary Rodham Clinton embarks on her second presidential bid, Mr. Blumenthal’s service to the Clintons is once again under the spotlight. Representative Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, a Republican who is leading the congressional committee investigating the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, plans to subpoena Mr. Blumenthal, 66, for a private transcribed interview.
Mr. Gowdy’s chief interest, according to people briefed on the inquiry, is a series of memos that Mr. Blumenthal — who was not an employee of the State Department — wrote to Mrs. Clinton about events unfolding in Libya before and after the death of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi. According to emails obtained by The New York Times, Mrs. Clinton, who was secretary of state at the time, took Mr. Blumenthal’s advice seriously, forwarding his memos to senior diplomatic officials in Libya and Washington and at times asking them to respond. Mrs. Clinton continued to pass around his memos even after other senior diplomats concluded that Mr. Blumenthal’s assessments were often unreliable.

9 Tips to Make Your Ecommerce Business Wildly Successful
SAM EDWARDS - In 2015 and for years to come, the ecommerce economy is expected to continue its upward trajectory and rapid growth. As an entrepreneur, this opportunity for success and sustainability is exciting, promising and intriguing. Whether you’ve already been involved with the launch of an ecommerce business in the past or are looking to get involved with your first venture, now is the time to get your foot in the door. Indeed, from 2010 to 2013, total U.S. retail ecommerce sales increased from $167.3 billion to $263.3 billion. Last year, that number jumped up to $304.1 billion, and trends suggest 2015 will top off somewhere around $347.3 billion. For perspective, total estimated retail sales in the U.S. came in around $3.19 trillion for 2014. That means ecommerce sales made up approximately 9.5 percent of total U.S. sales -- and that share is expected to grow.
However, those numbers pale in comparison to the predictions financial analysts and industry experts are suggesting for the next three years. In 2016, 2017 and 2018, sources say the total projected U.S. retail ecommerce sales will come in around $392.5, $440.4, and $491.5 billion, respectively. If those numbers hold true, that will be more than a 41 percent growth from this year to the end of 2018.

Business makes new push to keep Britain in Europe
Christopher Williams, James Quinn - Business leaders were this weekend preparing to fight to keep Britain in the European Union after David Cameron’s election triumph set the stage for a referendum on membership of the bloc.
There was widespread relief in boardrooms after the electorate rejected Ed Miliband’s anti-business rhetoric, but corporate concern soon turned to Mr Cameron’s pledge to hold a vote within two years.
Attempts were being made to build a coalition of Britain’s biggest companies to lobby to remain inside the EU.
Blue-chip firms held meetings during the election campaign about how to mobilise public support, amid concerns that business has hitherto failed to speak up effectively on the issue.
Business leaders lined up to back the plans for a new campaign this weekend.

4 Ways to Inspire Others in Business, and Beyond
CARM LYMAN - As an entrepreneur, your ability to inspire people -- be they your employees, customers or others with whom you interact -- is critical to your business's success. And at the end of the day, all that inspiration makes everyone feel good. Just ask the driving force behind the Inspiration Campaign, Robert Bengtson.
Bengtson, whose campaign erects billboards with inspiring messages, says he sees inspiration as an opening of doors, a means of seeking inspired action. There are lots of different actions an individual can be inspired to do, and ultimately, those actions equate to a better attitude toward life, which itself impacts your work as well as how you interact with others.
So, if you are looking to inspire others, these four tips from Bengtson are a great place to start.

When starting a business, it's you vs. the world
Ryan Smith - Most entrepreneurs will agree that you need to be a little nuts to start your own business.
The Leadership Insider network is an online community where the most thoughtful and influential people in business contribute answers to timely questions about careers and leadership. Today’s answer to the question “What advice would you give someone looking to start their own business?” is by Ryan Smith, CEO and founder of Qualtrics.
You have to be a little nuts to start your own business. Seriously–ask any entrepreneur. But that’s what makes it fun. When I meet with people who want to start their own business, I always share the following advice:
It’s you vs. the world
Get comfortable with this idea. If the word “no” doesn’t fire you up, you might want to think twice about starting your own business. A lot of people are going to tell you that things cant be done–and not just people outside of your company. Most entrepreneurs I talk to say that it often feels like it’s them against the world even within the walls of their company. So always remember your vision for the business. This is the only thing that will keep your company alive and thriving as you constantly adapt—especially in the beginning. These early changes and decisions are often the most pivotal for a company, mainly because they require the founder to test his or her willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed.

FACT CHECK: Rubio is accurate on business starts and deaths
Jason Noble - In his presidential pitch in Iowa and elsewhere, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio calls the 2016 election a "referendum on our identity."
The United States must pursue new policies on taxation, economic competitiveness and foreign policy, he says, or risk losing the exceptional qualities that allowed the nation to thrive throughout the 20th century.
In a meeting with The Des Moines Register's editorial board last month, Rubio illustrated the erosion of American dynamism with a worrying claim: The number of small business closures now exceeds small business startups.
We rate this statement TRUE.
The number of business "deaths" exceeded new businesses created in the four-year period from 2009 to 2012, U.S. Census data show, although the gap is narrowing.

Four Steps to Accelerate International Business Growth
1. DEFINE STRATEGIC NEEDS
Tapping into new markets provides the opportunity for increased revenue and profits. However, this initiative needs to be consistent with the company's overall strategy. Inconsistent, sporadic, or unfocused deployment of resources directed toward international growth can result in an underperforming initiative that soaks up limited resources with little return. Barriers to entry (duties, regulatory, and trademark restrictions) need to be identified and addressed. A SWOT analysis detailing the company's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats will identify and help maximize the company's strengths, minimize its weaknesses, and give focus to the international opportunity.

Starting an Online Business by Licensing an Existing Website
John Weisenberger - So you've been thinking of starting your own online business but designing a Website, writing the sales copy and creating the product all seem way beyond your current computer skills and available time. Does that mean your dream of having your own online business is just that, nothing more than a dream? Of course not.
Creating your own online business and its Website isn't the only way to get started online and let's face it, most people are not cut out to be start-up entrepreneurs anyway. However, many people are capable of managing a business that's already been proven to make money and that has a set of standard operating procedures that anyone can follow. That's why so many people chose to purchase franchises as their route to owning their own business.

In a note to clients last week, Barclays analyst Alicia Yap projected that revenue from WeChat’s sponsored feeds would reach about 1. 89 billion yuan this year and increase sharply next year to 10. 2 billion yuan to account for 42% of Tencent’s total advertising revenue.
Mobile games offered through WeChat and QQ generated 2. 9 billion yuan in revenue in the fourth quarter, rising from 2. 6 billion yuan in the third quarter but at a slower rate of growth than some analysts had projected.
